A beautiful contribution from Paoletti yesterday, 9 October, in the keynote lecture given at the Opening Conference of the UNESCO Chair “Cultural Landscapes of the Mediterranean and Community of Knowledge”.
The lecture, one of four planned on strategic themes for the UNESCO Chair, outlines the Foundation’s path of research and study in the field of didactic neuropsychopedagogy: human development towards the values of peaceful coexistence and dialogue, and the need and the possibility, through interdisciplinary approaches, of building inner and outer environments able to awaken emotions and thoughts connected to the deepest human aspirations, present in every culture.
The talk, titled “The scenographies of the soul”, touched on themes that matter closely to the Chair: inclusion, sharing of knowledge, evolution, unity in diversity.
Paoletti based his talk on cultural landscapes that are not only outer but also inner, because “it is from knowing our inner world that we can start again to build a future of peace.”
In a short but incisive journey, Paoletti wanted to share one particular aspect of the evolution of our species, which we could name with an extreme synthesis contained in the acronym F.A.S.E..
Paoletti recalled that “we need a new Phase able to break down walls, able to create within the environment a context different from the one we have generated until now.”
The acronym stands for philosophy, art, science, economy, and points to the need for a new philosophy, a new art, a new science and a new economy.
These 4 great areas of human knowledge have guided our evolution since our brain became able to produce the special capacity that makes us unique on this planet: the capacity to generate abstract thought. And through it to produce a symbolic abstraction of meaning, with which we imagined we could send signals of our inner world to the world that contained us, that saw us moving within it.
Paoletti closed the meeting with a wish: “to live in the environment as those who express the will to converse with it, as those who express the will to leave the mark of their presence, of their passage, the communication of their will to share becoming”, choosing the future one wishes to live.
